SF Admin. To Air Financial Status

Presentation set for March 3
By Chanin Rotz-Mountz

With so many variables affecting a school district’s budget and financial projections, Southern Fulton School District administrators are taking a proactive stance by arranging a sit- down with local constituents to discuss the district’s future.

A community presentation will be held in Southern Fulton High School’s auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 3. Overseen by Superintendent Kendra Trail, the event will include a PowerPoint presentation designed to review a variety of topics that all directly affect the district’s bottom line and financial status over the next five years.

Contributing factors during that time line, according to Trail, include the district’s ongoing contribution to the Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS) as well as healthcare costs. Currently, healthcare expenses total $1.3 million of the Southern Fulton School District’s overall budget and are expected to rise to more than $2 million in coming years.

Trail also indicated she will be touching on the issues of special education programming and requirements; district debt due to prior renovations/construction; and federal, state and local funding.

District residents and taxpayers are urged to attend this informational event. Those unable to attend the March 3 community presentation will be able to review Trail’s PowerPoint presentation online on the school’s Web site.
