The Sprint cars have finished up the Winternationals in Florida as East Bay Raceway Park held the Ronald Laney Memorial for 360 Sprints this past weekend.

Thursday night saw Michael Dupuy score the win ahead of Tim Shaffer, Danny Smith, Lou Kennedy and Terry McCarl, with Pennsylvania racers Daryn Pittman seventh, Mark Smith ninth, Chad Layton 11th and Pat Cannon 13th.

It was Mark Smith scoring his first win of the year in Friday night action at East Bay over Pittman, McCarl, Cap Henry and David Gravel with Layton 10th and Cannon 12th.

In Saturday’s $10,500 to win finale, Pittman scored the big win for the Heffner Racing-owned team as he won over McCarl, Henry, Danny Smith and Dupuy, with Mark Smith sixth, Pat Cannon 10th and Chad Layton 17th.

The World of Outlaw Late Models kicked off its 2011 racing season at Volusia Speedway Park, and it was Scott Bloomquist sweeping the weekend events.

Bloomquist won Thursday night over Brady Smith, Austin Hubbard, Jared Landers and Don O’Neal with Rick Eckert finishing 13th.

We have arrived to the week that all Sprint car fans in central PA have been looking forward to since the last checkered flag last fall. This coming Saturday, Lincoln Speedway is set to kick off the 2011 racing season in with the Icebreaker 30 for 410 Sprints beginning at 2 p.m. As of this writing, on Sunday, all systems were go for this weekend but, of course, the weather will be the final factor.

That’s it for the final week of February as we hope warmer weather is just around the corner. Until next week, e-mail reaches me at Bvores@comcast.net.
