Make Sure House Numbers Are Visible

To The Editor:

Help protect your family members and property by making sure your house number is clearly visible from the road. Please consider putting reflective numbers on your mailbox or a roadside post. The 911 system has cut emergency response times for law enforcement, firefighters and EMS, but we need your help. Looking for house numbers is very difficult, especially at night, and more so in the fog, snow or rain. It is important that house numbers are easily visible at all hours of the day as valuable time can be wasted looking for the location of an emergency if the numbers are not clearly posted. It is essential for each and every one of us to take responsibility to see that our homes and businesses are marked with numbers that are clearly visible from the road. Vital minutes are being wasted trying to locate calls due to buildings not marked at all, marked with wrong numbers or by markings that are not clearly visible from the road. Reflective numbers work great and are easily visible in all weather conditions, day or night. Please make sure your house number is visible from all approachable directions and that the numbers are at least three inches in height. Needmore (717-573- 4811), McConnellsburg (717-485- 4006), and Hustontown (717-987-3783) fire companies can provide you with reflective signs for a minimal fee, and even put them up for you if needed. Remember, we can’t help you if we can’t find you.
