Afghans For Sale Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. is selling Hustontown afghans featuring 11 different landmarks in three different colors for $39.99 each. More information may be obtained by calling 717-987-3783 or 717-987-3108.

Conservation District Tree Sale Fulton County Conservation District is currently taking orders for its annual tree sale. A large variety of fruit, nut, ornamental and forestation trees are available. Also available are strawberries, blueberries, grapes and asparagus. Deadline for all orders is March 4, 2011. An order form can be obtained by calling the Conservation District at 717-485-3547, Ext. 116 or by e-mail at fccd@pa.net. Profits from the sale are used to support environmental education efforts within Fulton County.

Farmland Preservation Program Fulton County Conservation District will be accepting applications for the Farmland Preservation program from February 1 to March 31. Landowners interested in the program must complete an application available at the Conservation District office. All applicants are required to pay a $100, nonrefundable application fee at the time the application is submitted. All properties must meet the minimum eligibility requirements of the program to be considered for conservation easement purchase. More information may be obtained by calling 717-485-3547, Ext. 121.

Benefit Sale Cove Valley Youth Camp will hold a benefit sale February 25 (snowdate February 26) at 5:30 p.m. at Chambersburg Mennonite Church, 1800 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. To be sold are tickets to the U.S. Open and tickets to Sight and Sounds production of “Joseph,” P. Buckley Moss print, hand-carved walking cane and many more items, new and used. All proceeds go toward the upkeep of the camp. Auction will begin at 5:30 p.m Food stand will open at 5:00 p.m.

Giant Book Sale More than 60,000 new and used books of all types, plus CDs, maps, sheet music, magazines, videotapes and artwork will be offered for sale at bargain prices at the 27th annual Friends of Legal Services book sale at Laird Hall on the Wilson College campus in Chambersburg. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 6; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 7; and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 8.

SF Registration Southern Fulton School District will hold pre-K registration March 3, for those children of the district who have reached their fourth birthday before September 1, 2011 and possible openings for children who have reached their third birthday before September 1, 2011. There will be openings in both morning and evening programs, regardless of income guidelines. Anyone having a child who is eligible should call the school at 294-3400.

55 Alive Class The classroom refresher course for 55 Alive/Mature Driving will be offered at Warfordsburg Senior Center on March 22 and 23. Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to noon and two days of classes are required. Preregister, either in person or by mailing check payable to AARP for $14 (per person non-member or $12 per person AARP member) to Warfordsburg Senior Center, 209 Long Hollow Road, Warfordsburg, PA 17267. Include phone number. Graduates of the class, age 55 and over, will be eligible for the 3-year auto insurance discounts. If planning on staying for lunch following the class, make reservations when registering. There are no tests involved.

CF Registration Central Fulton School District will hold registration for the 2011-12 school year Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4, 5 and 6. Children who will be age 4 on or before August 24 are eligible for the 4K program and children who will be age 5 on or before August 24, 2011, are eligible for kindergarten. Please note that students who are currently enrolled in the 4K program do not need to re-register for 5K. Contact Stacy Morton at 485-7072 to schedule an appointment.

AARP Tax Help Free tax help and e-filing is available for taxpayers with low or middle income. Any age, not just elderly, at Fulton Theatre behind F&M Trust, McConnellsburg, every Wednesday starting February 2 to April 13, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers wil prepare federal, state, local and rent and property tax rebate. Please bring all the following: last year’s income tax returns, current years tax forms such as W- 2s, 1099-Int., 1099-Div. 1099-B, 1099-R, Social Security, etc. Must have last year’s taxes to be able to e-file. No business or farms. There are 10 preparers who are certified by the IRS. More information may be obtained by calling 717-987-3915. No parking on F&M Trust parking lot.
