W. Pa. Man Faked Murder But Committed Suicide
SPRING CHURCH, Pa. (AP) – A district attorney says a western Pennsylvania man thought to be a murder victim last month had staged the scene before shooting himself.
The body of 43-year-old James Sapinsky was discovered Jan. 16 at his home in Spring Church by his fiancÈe. Sapinsky lived about 40 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
But Armstrong County District Attorney Scott Andreassi (an-DRAY’-see) says in a statement Friday that authorities have ruled out murder and the county coroner is closing the case as a suicide.
Sapinsky died of a single gunshot wound to the chest. His home was arranged to appear that it had been ran- sacked and that he had been tied to a chair before being shot.
Andreassi didn’t say if investigators determined Sapinsky’s motive for faking the murder.
