The dirt was flying last week as the All-Star Circuit of Champions kicked off the 2011 racing season with events in Georgia and Florida.
Screven Motor Speedway hosted the All-Stars and Late Models last Thursday night, but rain started falling midway through the program forcing postponement of the remainder of the event. It will be made up on Wednesday, November 2, right before the World Finals at Charlotte. The All-Star Sprint car lineup has already been finalized with the lineup for the $10,000-to-win show being Dale Blaney and Terry McCarl on the front row followed by Alan Krimes, Tim Shaffer, David Gravel, Lance Dewease, Aaron Ott, Sammy Swindell, Stevie Smith, Fred Rahmer, Sam Hafertepe, Tyler Walker, Mark Smith, Danny Lasoski, Donny Schatz, Danny Smith, Brad Greer, Greg Hodnett, Daryn Pittman, Chad Layton, Jessica Zemken, Pete Miller, Cap Henry and Greg Wilson. There will also be a $3,000-towin feature for the sprints that same night.
Friday night, the All-Stars were in action at Florida’s Ocala Speedway, where it was Tim Shaffer recording his first win of the season. He scored the win over Daryn Pittman, Tyler Walker, Aaron Ott, Dale Blaney, Lance Dewease, Danny Lasoski, Fred Rahmer, David Gravel and Greg Hodnett.
Saturday’s event at Ocala was rained out.
The All-Stars will be back in action Wednesday and Thursday at Volusia Speedway Park followed by three straight nights of World of Outlaws action at VSP.
The countdown continues to the Ice Breaker at Lincoln Speedway coming up on February 26, but I just don’t see it happening at this point. But stranger things have happened.
That’s a wrap for another week and, as always, e-mail reaches me at Bvores@comcast.net.
