Born October 3, 1937, in Fulton County, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Isabelle Ray Bishop, and the widow of James W. Swain, who died February 19, 1999.
She was a 1955 graduate of Southern Fulton High School.
She had been employed as a cashier and in customer service for McKinley’s Food Market, Dollar General and Harry’s Food Market, all in Hancock.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hancock, and served the community in numerous ways.
She is survived by four daughters: Pamela Smith and husband Greg, Big Cove Tannery; Starla Ward and husband Jim Jr., Hagerstown; Tina Thomas, Clear Spring, Md.; Sherri Kratz and husband Bill of Hancock; one son, Dennis Swain, Hancock; two sisters: B. Geraldine Shives, Hancock; Velma Mann, Warfordsburg; grandchildren: Beth Keidel and husband George, Falling Waters, W.Va.; Deidre Swain and fiance Allen Omps, Berkeley Springs; Anthony Smith and fiancee Amanda Weller, Brad and Megan Smith, Mercersburg; Keith Ward, Hagerstown; Jason Ward, Knoxville, Tenn.; Rebecca Shoemaker and husband Chris, Hancock; Zita Thomas, New York City; Meladie Thomas and fiance Nick Gadoury, Logan Houser, Clear Spring; Bryan Kratz, Hancock; greatgrandchildren: Kolen and Aubri Smith, Chambersburg; Owen and Charlotte Gadoury, Hancock.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd C. Bishop Sr., and one grandson, Thomas Kratz.
Services were held Saturday, February 5, at 2 p.m., at Grace Christian Fellowship. Rev. Edward Guyer officiated. Burial was made in Piney Plains United Methodist Cemetery, Little Orleans, Md.
