Bells pealed in the crisp winter air and the yellow ribbons were removed from the courthouse pillars as about 150 people gathered at the courthouse square to honor America’s hostages returning from Iran and the eight servicemen who died in the attempted rescue last spring.

The snow, sleet and rain which fell on Sunday afternoon in the below freezing temperatures made skating rinks out of highways. Reports are that two women were killed just west of Breezewood in a four-vehicle pileup. Roads in Fulton County were still hazardous on Monday morning, and all schools in the county were closed.

Miss Zoe M. Mason, formerly of McConnellsburg and presently a guest in the long-term care unit at the Medical Center, celebrated her 99th birthday on February 4 with a party given by the staff.

Roger K. Plessinger, 27, Needmore, was killed early Saturday morning in a truck accident on LR 29014, south of Needmore. The fatal accident, Fulton County’s first for 1981, was discovered by the victim’s brother, Grover E. Plessinger, while on this way home from work at 2:30 a.m. Police said the accident occurred sometime between 12:45 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.

Pine of Mercersburg on January 25; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Byers of Mercersburg on January 25; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Glenn of McConnellsburg on January 29; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Penrod of Everett on January 30; a a son to Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Snyder of McConnellsburg on January 30.

Deaths: Wendell W. Woodward, Huntingdon; Clem Daniels, Warren, Ohio; Samuel Ott, Mercersburg; Bentley R. Robinson, Mercersburg; Martha M. Ganoe, Wiley Ford, W.Va.

Tammy E. Hill and Douglas E. Daughenbaugh were united in marriage October 18 in the Grace Brethren Church, Martinsburg. Parents of the couple are Cindy Kies Burleson of Martinsburg and Harry Hill of Mc- Connellsburg and Mr. and Mrs. Byron Daughenbaugh of Martinsburg.

Nancy K. Nesbitt became the bride of Dennis Wilson on January 3 in the McConnellsburg United Methodist Church. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. William Nesbitt of McConnellsburg. The groom is the son of Dorothy Wilson of Zullinger and Kermit Wilson of Shade Gap.

Diane D. Hoffman and Kirk T. Younker exchanged their wedding vows December 20 in the Damascus Christian Church. Diane is the daughter of Mrs. Florence Pittman and the late Russell Hoffman. Kirk is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Younker.
