Hustontown

By Kate Berkstresser

The weatherman gave us a little sample of the winter punch for the weekend, but predictions are for more snow this week.

Hustontown Fire Co. will sponsor a quarter of beef and 410 shoot Saturday, February 5, beginning at 1 p.m. Shells will be furnished. Shooters must shoot all rounds to qualify for the beef round. Various meat prizes will be awarded for regular rounds. Sleeved guns will not be permitted.

All members of the Hustontown Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary are reminded that the annual dues are now payable.

Homemade soup and bread sale by Hustontown Fire Co. will be Saturday, February 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. eat in or takeout by the bowl or by the quart. To reserve, call Fran Hoover at 987-3210 or Elner DeShong at 987-3108. Available soups are vegetable, ham and bean, turkey noodle, plain or corn and chili.

Anyone who would like to send Liberty Crouse a get well card it would be appreciated. Her address is 8129 Big Cove Tannery Road, Big Cove Tannery, PA 17212. Liberty likes to get mail and it will brigthen her day.

Household Hint: Poinsettia pointers. Although poinsettias usually last only one season, you can keep them going longer with some special loving care. To bloom at Christmas they need total darkness for 10 hours a day for the entire fall. Trim the stems back after the flowers die in winter, and give them only a little water for several months. Once you start back to regular watering, the plant will begin to grow again.
