David R. Hoover II was named McConnellsburg

Volunteer Fire Co.’s Fireman of the Year at its

29th annual banquet held on January 19 at Mc- Connellsburg Firehall. Hoover, 44, has been a member of the fire company since 1964 and has served as its assistant treasurer, vice president and, in both 1989 and 1990, served as president of the company.

Yellow ribbons are springing up all over the county as all rally to support our troops in the Persian Gulf. The ribbons are one of many ways in which Fulton Countians have reacted to the outbreak of war in the Middle East. Since last Wednesday, local merchants have reported both an increase in sales of televisions and in people stopping while shopping to watch store televisions broadcast the latest events in the Persian Gulf.

The first really cold snap of the winter was felt in this area this week with temperatures registering 10 degrees and below.

Deaths: Lottie Seville, 81, Huntingdon; Alva Hershey, 90, Waterfall; Watson Cubbage Sr., 84, Hancock; Richard Bishop Sr., Hustontown.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward First, Camp Hill, wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Dorothy, to Jeffrey Lake, son of Mrs. Bonnie Perviance, McConnellsburg, and Richard Lake, also of McConnellsburg.

Air National Guard Airman Murray Romig Jr. has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Births at the Medical Center: a son to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Strait of Warfordsburg on January 13; a son to Mr. and Mrs. William Guyer of McConnellsburg on January 12; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Foy of Fort Littleton on January 12; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Donald She of Big Cove Tannery on January 15; a son to Mr. and Mrs. James McFadden on January 16.
