Abram F. Atherton

Mercersburg, 89

Abram V. “Abe” Atherton, 89, formerly of Mercersburg, died at 6:55 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011, at Manor- Care Health Services, Chambersburg.

Born February 12, 1921, at Mercersburg, he was a son of the late Beaver and Nancy Rasp Atherton.

He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot following more than 30 years of service.

He was a member of Greencastle Church of God. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and following the Baltimore Orioles.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Mamie M. Peck Atherton, whom he married May 3, 1941; a son, Kenneth R. (husband of Audrey) Atherton, McConnellsburg; two daughters: Anna J. (Mrs. James) Gearhart and Sandy L. (Mrs. David) Hawbaker, both of Mercersburg; six grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; a great-greatgrandchild; a sister, Grace Guyer, Mercersburg; and a brother, Donald Atherton, Fort Loudon.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 19, at Greencastle Church of God. Rev. Floyd E. Myers officiated. Burial was made in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, was in charge of arrangements.
