S.E. Pa. Hunter Found Dead Under Tree Stand

WEST VINCENT, Pa. (AP) – A southeastern Pennsylvania deer hunter has been found dead beneath his tree stand.

Forty-seven-year-old Michael James Faust, of Uwchlan (YOO-klin), began his hunt Tuesday evening on a farm in West Vincent, Chester County. The owner called the police around noon on Wednesday to report that Faust’s car hadn’t moved in 12 hours.

Friends and first responders found Faust’s body on the ground 20 feet below a tree stand he’d been using.

West Vincent Township Police Department Chief Michael Swininger says the death appears accidental. Faust’s backpack and rifle were found hanging from hooks above a tree stand that was not securely fastened. Faust was not wearing a safety harness.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
