New Year’s Resolution: Save On Car Insurance

With the New Year around the corner you might be making some resolutions, particularly when it comes to saving money. Making a few tweaks to your car insurance policy is an often-overlooked opportunity to help find some extra room in your budget.

A local insurance agent can help you make sure you have the right policy. The experts at car insurance group Progressive offer these tips for chatting with your agent:

Make sure you have the right amount of insurance. First, make sure that you have the right amount of insurance that’s required by the state. Next, ask your agent if you need physical damage coverage for your car. If you’re driving an older model, your car might be worth less than it would cost to insure.

Check your roadside assistance coverage. If you have an AAA membership, then you likely don’t need to pay for roadside assistance on your car insurance policy. The same goes for rental car coverage; if you have access to an alternate form of transportation while your car is being repaired following a claim, you might not need to pay for that coverage.

Ask your agent to shop around. Independent agents represent multiple insurance companies, so they can compare different companies and find the policy that’s right for you at the right price.

Update your policy. As your life changes – marriage, children, new cars – check in with your agent. You can maximize your savings by taking advantage of available discounts

The key is to make sure you have the right insurance at the right price and that you aren’t wasting any extra dollars on things you don’t actually need.
