Edna M. Spade

Edna Mae Spade, 79, Hancock, Md., died Saturday, December 11, 2010, at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

Born August 12, 1931, in Oldtown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Eugene Preston and Edith Twigg Snyder.

She attended Whips Cove Church in Warfordsburg. She attended public schools in Oldtown. She retired, due to disability, from Londontown Manufacturing in Hancock, where she had worked as a presser. She had been a homemaker in recent years and was an avid reader and enjoyed doing latchhook.

Surviving are a son, Charles Richard Spade, Salunga, Pa.; one daughter, Barbara Estalene Sparks, Hancock; two sisters: Martha Parker, Oldtown, and Betty Powers, Paw Paw; five grandchildren: Michelle Lee Hann, Warfordsburg; Jennifer Nichole Ziler, Hancock; Steven Michael Bradt, Lititz, Pa.; Charles Alan Bradt, Reinholds, Pa.; and Deanna Lynne Styer, Columbia, Pa.; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Lewis Spade, on November 17, 2010; one daughter, Deborah Ann Spence; one grandson, Chad Mellott; and two brothers: Carl Snyder and Robert Snyder.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 16, at Whips Cove Church, Warfordsburg. Pastor Gene Harding and Pastor Freddie Parker will officiate. Interment will be in Whips Cove Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 15, at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, and from noon to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.
