Pa. Salvation Army Gets Diamond Ring, Wedding Band

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) – The Salvation Army says a generous donor dropped a pair of rings into one of its red kettles.

The charity says it received a diamond engagement ring and a wedding band among its donations in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The head of the Salvation Army’s chapter in Wilkes-Barre says the rings were rolled up in a dollar bill and dropped into a kettle on Black Friday. Patty Richwine says it one of the stranger donations the charity has received.

The Salvation Army tells WNEP-TV the rings were appraised at about $600.

Richwine says the Wilkes- Barre chapter raised $150,000 last holiday season and hopes to reach that mark again this year.
