Four Vehicles Collide In Borough

Five individuals escaped injury last Friday during a four vehicle pileup in Mc- Connellsburg Borough, state police reported.

Police said Molly J. Berkstresser, 23, of McConnellsburg stopped to make a lefthand turn off Lincoln Way East onto North Sixth Street when Layla A. Wood, also of McConnellsburg, failed to stop in time. Wood’s 1996 Chevrolet Blazer struck the rear of a 2006 Ford Taurus operated by Thomas A. Hammond, 42, from State College. The impact caused Hammond’s car to rear-end a 1989 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Peter J. Needham, 22, from McConnellsburg. Needham’s SUV then collided with Berkstresser’s 2004 Chevrolet Aveo as she waited to turn.

Wood was not wearing a seat belt during the 3:51 p.m. accident. Needham, Berkstresser, Hammond and Hammond’s 1-year-old male passenger were all properly secured in their vehicles. State police will be citing Wood in connection with the crash.
