Lions Park Project Progresses

SPECIAL TO THE NEWS

Fundraising to modify the 14,000-square-foot area of the old tennis court at Lions Community Park is now entering its fourth month. To date 40 percent of the $100,000 goal has been raised. The plans for the new Practice & Play facility include three net hitting tunnels for baseball and softball as well as a place for golfers to improve their swings, all under roof. Also, one new tennis court and basketball court area are planned, all enclosed within a sturdy fenced facility that will be monitored by a high-tech security system.

By successfully reaching its goal, the Lions fundraising committee is planning a mid-to-late spring construction date.

Many business and individuals have already made generous contributions to the project. The committee is still in the process of contacting other sources of funding, and it is also appealing to the many families who have children and grandchildren who use the park facilities to thoughtfully consider contributing to the Practice & Play facility. All contributions are gratefully appreciated, and can help to make this project a reality in 2011.

Donations can be made payable to the “Pennsylvania Lions Inc. (for tax-deduction purposes) and sent in care of Donald Fowler, 113 W. Wood Street, Mc- Connellsburg, PA 17233. Pledges are also acceptable to be paid at a later date.

For more information, contact committee members Don Fowler, John Glazier or Loy Garber.
