Mary E. Markle

Breezewood, 91

Mary E. Markle, 91, of Breezewood, died Thursday, October 28, 2010, with her family by her side.

She was born on January 24, 1919, in Clearville, Pa., a daughter of the late Ira and Edna E. (Grove) Conner. On February 20, 1937, in Altoona, she married William H. Markle. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1983.

She is survived by five daughters: Flora Berkstresser, Hustontown; Virginia, married to Earl Garland, Breezewood; Donna, married to Anthony Carpenter, Crystal Spring; Ruth Ramsey and Jim Fischer, Summerfield, Fla.; Joyce Gracey and Mark Price, Everett; 19 grandchildren; 37 greatgrandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Richard and Roland Markle; one sister: Fern and husband Harold Mills; a son-in-law; one grandson; one granddaughter; and one greatgrandson.

She was affiliated with the Mountain Chapel Brethren in Christ Church.

She was employed at the Lions Manufacturing, Everett, and later worked as a cook at Willows Restaurant, Bedford. She then worked 25 years at the Family House Restaurant, Breezewood, until her retirement.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, collecting family memories such as photos, newspaper clippings and greeting cards.

She will be forever remembered for her smile, love of life, thoughtfulness and kind words. She will always be lovingly treasured and deeply missed.

Friends may call at the Akers Funeral Home, 299 Raystown Road, Everett, on Sunday, October 31, 2010, from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the church.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 1, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Mountain Chapel Brethren In Christ Church. Pastor Ronald Hott officiated. Burial was in the Mountain Chapel Church Cemetery.
