North Star 1 Forbes Road 0

With slightly more than seven minutes left on the game clock Saturday afternoon, North Star knocked in a goal for a 1-0 victory over Forbes Road. Goalkeeper Tanner Henry made seven saves for the Cardinals during the District 5-A quarterfinal match. The loss closed out the team’s season at a record of 11-8.

Fannett-Metal 2

McConnellsburg 0

The McConnellsburg Spartans closed out their season with a 5-11-2 record last Wednesday after falling to the Fannett-Metal Tigers 2-0. Dillan Hollinshead made nine saves in goal for Mc- Connellsburg during the Sideling Hill League game.

Forbes Road 8

Southern Fulton 0

Forbes Road trounced the Southern Fulton Indians 8-0 last Wednesday, thereby earning them a place in District 5-A playoffs. Casey Covert and Donovan Bricker led the Cardinals’ scoring effort with two goals each, and Chase Shaw, Dakota DeShong, Michael Runk and Casey Wade each added one. Those contributing assists included Runk (3), Shaw (2) and Matthew Bricker. For the Indians, goalies Taylor Bohrer and Courtney Strait combined for nine saves.

Windber 4

McConnellsburg 2

McConnellsburg’s one goal lead in the opening half on Saturday dwindled away with Windber coming back for the 4-2 victory in the quarterfinal match of District 5-A playoffs. Sarra Kendall and Nikki Fleming both found the back of the net and scored goals for the Lady Spartans, while Nicki McQuade finished with an assist. Sarrah Pollock closed out the game with 15 blocked shots in goal.

Mercersburg Academy 2

McConnellsburg 1

Mercersburg Academy jumped out to a two-goal lead last Tuesday and cruised to a narrow 2-1 nonleague win over McConnellsburg. Sarra Kendall had the lone goal for the Lady Spartans. Meanwhile, goalie Sarrah Pollock closed out the match with 10 saves.

Meyersdale 2

Battling it out over five sets, McConnellsburg finally prevailed on Monday night, defeating Meyersdale during the semifinal round of District 5-A playoffs. Emily Watkins led her Lady Spartan teammates with 27 kills and eight digs, while Rikki Green had eight kills, 10 blocks and three aces. Marleigh Jennings totalled five kills and 12 digs, while Jess Nero contributed five kills and five aces. Valerie Green wrapped up the playoff match with 39 assists, 10 digs and three aces, and teammate Kelsey Ramsey rounded out the day with six digs.

West Branch 3

McConnellsburg 0

West Branch handed the McConnellsburg Lady Spartans a significant 3-0 loss on Saturday to claim the Inter- County Conference championship title. Emily Watkins posted five kills and six blocks for the Spartans, who also received eight assists and nine digs from teammate Valerie Green. Marleigh Jennings rounded out the match with six digs.

Everett 0

McConnellsburg was scheduled to face off against West Branch on Saturday for the Inter County Conference title after successfully defeating the Everett Warriors last Tuesday by the final score of 3-0. Valerie Green rallied for 21 assists and 12 digs during the Sideling Hill League game, and teammate Emily Watkins provided 13 kills, three blocks and four aces. Jess Nero added four kills and six digs, and Becca Hahn finished with four digs. Rikki Green closed out the match with five kills and six blocks.

Hyndman 3

Southern Fulton 2

Hyndman and Southern Fulton battled it out over five sets last Tuesday with the Lady Hornets prevailing for the 3-2 Sideling Hill League win. Masey Brown tallied five kills, six blocks and seven service points for the Indians, and Cierra Covalt rallied for 12 service points and two aces. Whitney Ritz closed out the match with seven kills, and Abby Hawkins added 12 assists. Kelsey Truax, Ashley Sigel and Jenna Palmer each had 11 digs.
