Paul J. Moats Sr.
Paul Joseph Moats Sr., 78, Hancock, Md., died Friday, October 29, 2010, at his home.
Born March 8, 1932, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Roy C. and Bridget A. Weller Moats.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, 1952-54.
He retired in January 1988 from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg.
He was a mechanic and businessman. He was owner operator of Paul’s Used Cars, 1963-98.
He also operated Moat’s Service Station in 1958.
He was a member of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, Hancock, and Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are his wife, Patsy I. Younker Moats, whom he married February 2, 1957, at Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren; two sons: Paul J. Moats Jr. and Christopher W. Moats, both of Hancock; two daughters: Bonnie S. Harper, McConnellsburg, and Carol A. Moats, Hancock; three brothers: Leroy, Herman and Ray Moats, all of Hancock; five sisters: Veriee Weller, Etta Mae Younker and Rosalie Ward, all of Hancock; Mary Stuckey of Berkeley Springs, and Betty Hixon of Warfordsburg; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Jeffrey L. Moats and Calvin I. Moats; one brother, Homer Moats; and two sisters: Helen Pittman and Shelva Jean Crouse.
Services were held Tuesday, November 2, at 11:00 a.m., at Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, Hancock. Rev. Harry Strite and Rev. Stephen Wagoner officiated. Burial, with military services by Tri-State Honor Guard, were in the church cemetery.
Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, was in charge of arrangements.
