Dick Mentzer, 79, Greencastle, Pa., died at 8:28 p.m., Tuesday, October 26, 2010, in Chambersburg Hospital.
Born May 29, 1931, in Needmore, Pa., he was the son of the late Keller T. and Viola H. (Snyder) Mentzer.
He retired from the Letterkenny Army Depot of Chambersburg after 33 years of employment.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373 of Greencastle. He enjoyed having family picnics and playing the steel guitar. He played his guitar for the late Merle Everts band, the Hilltop Harmonizers.
He and his wife, Faye (Everts) Mentzer, were married January 14, 1956, in Louisville, Ky.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one daughter, Melody Mentzer, Greencastle; two sisters: Verna Keesecker, Berkeley Springs W.Va.; Katherine Bishop, Chambersburg; and one brother, Gerald Mentzer, Needmore, Pa.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Thomas, Bob, Larry and Donald Mentzer.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 30, at 10:00 a.m., from Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. Chaplain Kitty Lippy officiated. Burial was in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.
