Curtis Edward “Smitty” Smith, 65, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at his home.

Born February 7, 1945, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Curtis Clifton and Mary Beatrice McCusker Smith.

He was a 1962 graduate of Hancock High School.

He was retired from the State Highway Administration.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Hancock, and he attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Wanda S. Ruppenthal Smith, whom he married in Winchester, Va.; a daughter, Wendy R. Vance, and husband Melvin R., Greenup, Ky.; a son, Curtis Adam Smith and fiance Molly Brandenburg, Hagerstown; a stepdaughter, Leslie Myer, and husband Duane, Berkeley Springs; a stepson, John C. Hoover II, and wife Jenny, Warfordsburg; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons: Matthew Tate Smith and Joele Clifton Smith.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, October 22, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs. Fr. Leonard Smith was the celebrant. Burial was at the convenience of the family.

Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, was in charge of arrangements.
