FR Students Receive Highest FFA Award

Evan Brant and Caitlin Black received the American FFA Degree, the highest degree awarded by the National FFA, at the 83rd National FFA Convention held in Indianapolos October 23, 2010. Evan Brant and Caitlin Black received the American FFA Degree, the highest degree awarded by the National FFA, at the 83rd National FFA Convention held in Indianapolos October 23, 2010. Caitlin Black, and Evan Brant received the American FFA Degree at the 83rd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis on Saturday, October 23, 2010. It is the highest degree awarded by the national FFA organization and recognizes Caitlin and Evan’s demonstrated outstanding achievements in agriculture production.

Both recipients are members of the Forbes Road FFA chapter. According to Al Corman, retired Forbes Road ag teacher, Caitlin and Evan are the only Forbes Road members to receive the prestigious award since 1959.

Less than 1 in 154 FFA members advance through their local chapter and state FFA degree programs to earn this national degree. Fifty-four FFA members from Pennsylvania received their degrees this past weekend.

Caitlin, daughter of Maynard and Rhonda Black, is responsible for managing the family’s dairy herd. Evan, son of Curtis and Donna Brant, is currently pursuing an associate’s degree in agriculture business management at Penn State and also plans on returning to the family farm.
