Saxton Woman Uninjured

A Saxton, Pa., woman escaped harm when she swerved to miss a downed tree downed on Route 913 in Wells Township. State police reported Linda A. Crocker, 44, was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred on Thursday, October 7, at 5:05 p.m. Crocker’s 2005 Jeep Liberty struck an embankment after she swerved to miss the tree.

Woman Charged Following Crash

A 22-year-old woman from Warfordsburg faces charges of unauthorized use of automobiles or other vehicles resulting from a single vehicle crash. According to state police, Tiffany Nicole Swope allegedly took a Pontiac Grand Am without the permission of the owner, a 56-year-old Warfordsburg man. Swope then wrecked the car. The date of the incident was September 27 at 2:25 a.m.

Warfordsburg Residents Involved In Accident

Two Warfordsburg area residents were involved in a collision at the exit of Hidden Spring Campground in Southamptom Township, Bedford County.

According to state police from the Bedford barracks, 73-year-old Ivan M. Shaffer of Warfordsburg pulled from the exit onto Beans Cove Road and into the path of a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Christa D. Goss, 46, of Cumberland, Md.

Shaffer and his passenger, Darlene P. Shaffer, 59, also of Warfordsburg, were wearing seat belts as were Goss and her 14-year-old female passenger. Both passengers suffered minor injuries during the October 7 accident at 6:24 a.m. Ivan Shaffer has been charged by state police for entering a roadway without yielding to oncoming traffic.

Local Man Injured In Bedford County Collision

A 33-year-old McConnellsburg man suffered minor injuries during a recent two-vehicle collision along Route 30 in East Providence Township, Bedford County.

State police reported Gary P. Ford lost control of his eastbound 2006 Ford Crown Victoria on some loose gravel, causing the car to cross the oncoming lane and strike a guiderail. Following impact, the car spun back across the roadway and into a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt operated by David A. Grace, 54, of Saltillo. Grace’s car spun into a guiderail twice as a result of the collision.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Ford will be cited in connection with the crash.

Two Collide In DUI Accident, One Charged With Assault

Two vehicles collided along Route 522 in Belfast Township, with one driver now facing charges of driving under the influence and the other cited for assault.

State police reported on Wednesday, October 13, 47- year-old Patricia Ann Messerly of Warfordsburg slowed down while rounding a curve in the roadway when the rear of her 1999 Chevrolet Astro was struck by a 1998 Dodge Stratus driven by Travis Eric Sigel, 48, also from Warfordsburg. Troopers allege Sigel was driving under the influence during the 3:30 p.m. accident and will be charged with that infraction as well as other traffic violations.

Both Sigel and Messerly were wearing seat belts. Messerly sustained minor injuries. Damage to their vehicles ranged from minor to moderate.

Following the crash, state police added, Messerly and the 48-year-old man reportedly became involved in an argument. The argument turned physical when Messerly allegedly hit, punched and bit the man multiple times on his face, chest and right hand. Messerly was charged with simple assault and harassment through the office of Magisterial District Judge Carol Jean Johnson.

Vehicle Rolls Over

A Hancock, Md., man was not injured when his southbound 2006 Pontiac Torrent slid off Big Cove Tannery Road and rolled over several times. Fifty-sixyear old Larry L. Roman was wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred at 4 a.m. on Saturday, October 9, in Thompson Township. He will be cited by state police for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

Two Charged In School Fight

A 16-year-old female and a 15-year-old female were cited for harassment following a physical altercation at Southern Fulton High School on Thursday, October 14, at 9:10 a.m. Both girls struck one another in the face, leaving minor injuries. Charges have been filed by state police through Magisterial District Judge Carol Jean Johnson.

Passenger Injured

A Fort Littleton woman was transported to Fulton County Medical Center for treatment following a twovehicle collision along Great Cove Road on Thursday, October 14.

According to state police from the McConnellsburg substation, Dorothy D. Saum, 75, of Fort Littleton was a passenger in a 2002 Ford Windstar driven by Madonna C. White, 24, of Greencastle when the crash occurred at 6:01 p.m. just south of Pheasant Trail Lane. White’s northbound vehicle was stopped behind a vehicle making a left-hand turn when it was struck from behind by a 1993 Chevrolet Tracker operated by Marlin J. Fleming, from Orbisonia.

Fleming, 38, was also transported to the hospital but by private vehicle. State police reported he was wearing a seat belt but did not suffer any injuries. Saum was using a seat belt as was White. Fleming will be charged with careless driving in connection with the crash.

Car Disabled In Crash

A 2005 Dodge Neon sustained disabling damage on Thursday, October 14, when it ran off Route 30 in Brush Creek Township and into a ditch. The driver, a 17-yearold girl from McConnellsburg, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. She will be charged with driving on roadways laned for traffic and a seat belt violation. State police were assisted on the scene by members of the Breezewood Volunteer Fire Co. and Raystown EMS.

Camera Stolen

A Kodak camera valued at $75 was stolen from a yard sale being held at a location along North Third Street in McConnellsburg Borough on Saturday, October 16, at 8:40 a.m. The suspect in the theft is described as an Asian male with long black hair operating a grey van. Anyone having further information linked to this case is asked to contact Trooper Wadsworth at 717-485-3131.

Box Truck Damaged

A box truck parked at The Barn flea market was damaged at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, according to state police. Victim of the mischief is a 61-year-old Asian woman from Staten Island, N.Y. Anyone with additional information concerning this incident of criminal mischief is urged to call Trooper Falkosky at 717-485-3131.

Mailboxes Damaged

Mailboxes along Johnson’s Mill Road, Pine Cliff Lane, Pleasant Grove Road, and Fox Squirrel Drive were damaged between October 15 and 16. Anyone with information related to these incidents of mischief is asked to contact Trooper Falkosky by calling 717-485- 3131.

Police Respond To Mischief Call

A 37-year-old female from Needmore informed state police an unknown individual damaged her mailbox located at 14507 Timber Ridge Road in Belfast Township between 11 p.m. on October 14 and 7:30 a.m. on October 15. Anyone having information pertinent to this mischief should call Trooper Garner at 717-485- 3131.

Fireworks Explode

Fireworks were placed inside a mailbox located at 141 Confederate Lane in Ayr Township and ignited between 3 p.m. on October 14 and 7:30 a.m. on October 15. Victim in this case of mischief is a 25-year-old female from McConnellsburg. Anyone with additional information regarding this case is asked to contact Trooper Garner by calling 717-485- 3131.

St. Thomas Woman Arrested For DUI

Thirty-four-year-old Liza Mixell of St. Thomas was arrested by state police following a traffic stop at the intersection of Route 16 and 522 on Saturday, October 16. According to reports, Mixell was initially stopped for an equipment violation at 5:08 a.m. and allegedly determined to be operating under the influence of alcohol.

Cabin Damaged By Gunshot

A hunting cabin just north of the intersection of Garland and Gem roads was damaged by a total of eight gunshots between 12:01 a.m. on April 1 and midnight on October 11. The mischief was reported to state police by the victim, a 53-year-old man from Lutherville, Md. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Trooper Garner at 717-485- 3131.

Local Man Charged In DUI

McConnellsburg resident James Anthony Will has been charged with driving under the influence in connection with a traffic stop along Route 30 in Licking Creek Township over the weekend. Will, 35, was reportedly pulled over by state police after committing several traffic violations on Sunday, October 17, at 2:10 a.m. Will was alleged to be driving under the influence and has been charged through Magisterial District Judge Devin Horne.

McConnellsburg Man Released From Hospital

A McConnellsburg man was taken to Washington County Hospital last Friday following a two-vehicle collision and has since been treated and released.

Maryland State Police said the crash involving Tyler Swisher of McConnellsburg occurred during the afternoon hours on the 13900 block of Cearfoss Pike. The 4:41 p.m. accident occurred when Swisher swerved to avoid colliding with a vehicle that was stopped and attempted to make a left-hand turn into a driveway. Swisher’s 1995 Pontiac Grand Am crossed into the oncoming lane and struck an oncoming 2006 Chevrolet truck operated by Eduardo Emilio Gonzalez from Hagerstown, Md.

Swisher, Gonzalez and two passengers were injured and were treated at Washington County Hospital.

Hancock Woman Cited Following Accident

A Hancock, Md., woman was cited for driving a vehicle at unsafe speeds in connection with a single-vehicle accident on Thursday, October 14, along Route 522.

State police, McConnellsburg said Amanda N. Powers suffered minor injuries when her southbound 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier slid off the Bethel Township roadway at 11:15 a.m. The car struck and crossed over a concrete curb and struck a traffic sign. Powers, 19, was not wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred. State police troopers were assisted on the scene by the Needmore Volunteer Fire Co.
