Our Town

McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co. will hold its annual Halloween parade on Thursday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate should line up in the area of the library on North First Street between 6:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. The parade will move along Lincoln Way to North Third Street, ending at the firehall where prizes will be awarded.

Birthday wishes to Betty Jo Lynch, 58 on October 3; Iva Seiders, 97 on October 22; Steve Weller, 60 on October 19; Bob Covert, October 23; Louise Carbaugh, October 23; Tonya Schetrompf, October 27; Cole Harman, October 25; Kara Truax and Jim Hawbaker, October 28; Pastor Chris Martin, 34 on October 18; and Eddie Harmon, 51 on October 29;

Congratulations to Koby Cutchall and Cherina Strait on their marriage at Cito United Methodist Church October 9. A reception was held in Heartland Hall, Bedford.

Congratulations to Darren Mellott and Carrie Brown, who were married on Carrie’s grandparents’ farm in the Orbisonia area on October 10. They honeymooned in Florida.

Visiting with Bill and Janet Geyer over the weekend were her nephews and niece, Steve Melltot of Georgia, Mark and Judy Mellott and Paul Shepherd of Pittsburgh.

The county was very busy with the activities over the weekend, with the weather a little chilly but sunny. The trees were beautiful with colors.

What an awesome and miraculous sight on television Tuesday night at 11:11 p.m., when the first miner in Chile was brought tothe surface after 69 days underground in the copper mine. May they all continue to lead a healthy life.

Mercersburg Legion Golf League of Great Cove held their banquet on Wednesday night at the Mercersburg American Legion home.

Lee and Sharon Glazier, along with Dale and Esther Mellott of Shirmantown, enjoyed a bus trip to Wellsboro and other sights on the way, including the Chocolate Factory and the Little Grand Canyon, last Tuesday. Visiting with Lee and Sharon over the weekend were their daughter, Tricia, and husband Dan, family and a friend of Massachusetts.

Public Opinion Female Athlete of the Week was Kali Hockensmith of Forbes Road. She plays forward for the Cardinals’ field hockey team and is a senior. Her parents are Robbey and LaTisha Hockensmith.

Public Opinion weekly honor roll student-athletes were Sammie Clippinger, Forbes Road field hockey; Rikki Green, McConnellsburg volleyball; Whitney Ritz, Southern Fulton volleyball and Dustin Sheffield, Forbes Road soccer.

McConnellsburg Class of 2000 held its 10th reunion on Saturday at Great Cove Golf Club.

Happy wedding anniversary to these couples: Scott and Marge Sipes, 23 years on October 23; Buck and Jan Seville, 45 years on October 23; and John and Bonnie Duffey, 39 years on October 24.

Hustontown Class of 1957 held its reunion recently and not the Class of 1953, which was stated in Our Town last week.

It happened this week: In 1987 a 58-1/2-hour drama in Midland, Texas, ended happily as rescuers freed Jessica McClure, an 18-month-old girl trapped in an abandoned well.
