Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary News

The FCMC Auxiliary will celebrate the Fulton Fall Folk Festival (FFFF) by holding a Food and Craft Sale on Friday, October 15, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the activities room at the Medical Center. We will have homemade soups (bowls or quarts), sandwiches, baked goods and a variety of craft items.

At the recent meetings held on Tuesday, September 7 and Monday, October 4 plans for the FFFF event were made and other activities were discussed. Details are provided below.

The fundraisers held over the summer went very well. The June Car Wash and Bake Sale at Great Cove Auto was a huge success as it was a perfect summer day with mild temperatures and plenty of sun. Youth volunteers – Nick Hess, Caleb Washabaugh, Garet and Johnathan Farling – guided ably by Wendy Farling and assisted by several Auxiliary members were kept very busy with the car wash. There were approximately 45 vehicles which meant there was little time to relax or admire the results once the car wash began. Actually, there were more trucks and SUVs than cars so perhaps we should say the equivalent of 60 cars. The cost of the car wash was a donation to the Auxiliary. One customer commented that it was the best car wash he ever had. The attendees also chose from an array of craft items and homemade baked goods. Proceeds including the generous donation from Great Cove Auto, will be used to support the Medical Center Auxiliary.

The Butcher Shoppe cookie dough sale was also successful. We sold 188 tubs of cookie dough. Anyone who missed out this time will have another chance, although we haven’t yet decided when we will repeat the sale.

A current fundraiser is the sale of Van Bourgondien Dutch bulbs and perennials. Orders are being taken through the day of the Fall Folk Festival sale. They will be delivered about two weeks later in time for fall planting. Auxiliary members can take your order or stop by the fall festival sale on October 15.

We will also have a fundraiser with Hoss’s Restaurant in Chambersburg on Friday, November 12. The auxiliary will receive 20 to 25 percent of the check of anyone who eats at the restaurant that day who presents one of the special cards Hoss’s will be providing to the auxiliary for distribution ahead of time. If you are interested, you should ask an Auxiliary member for one of the cards. We’re hoping for a great turnout, so mark your calendars for a trip to Chambersburg that include lunch or dinner at Hoss’s.

The auxiliary is very pleased to be the headline sponsor for the Women’s Health Fair to be held on October 18 to 20 at the Medical Center. We encourage Fulton County residents to attend the fair to learn more about getting and staying healthy. Be sure to visit the auxiliary table and consider joining our group. We support the Medical Center in a variety of ways and have a lot of fun in the process.

Our members enjoy helping with activities organized for the long-term care residents. Transporting residents for beauty shop twice a week, for the monthly barber shop and for weekly church services are regularly scheduled activities. Auxiliary members who volunteer to work in the hospital or in long-term care are required to attend an orientation. The next orientation will be held on Friday, November 5. Call Wendy at 485-6116 to sign up.

We encourage Fulton County residents of all ages to join and be a part of our efforts to support the Fulton County Medical Center. You can find an application on the FCMC Web Page at http://www.fcmc-pa.org/aux-iliary. html or pick up a brochure in the lobby of the hospital.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 6, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Pearl Conference Room, on the second floor of the Specialty Services Building. We will be planning our Christmas bazaar scheduled for Friday, December 10, and the Tree of Love ceremony to be held on Sunday, December 12. A workshop to make hard candy for the Christmas bazaar will be held on November 9, starting around 5:15 p.m., in the activities room at the Medical Center. Watch the Community Bulletin Board in the Fulton County News for notices of meetings and other activities during 2010.

Officers for 2010-2011 are Betty Shelley, president; Judy Shade, vice president; Nancy Younker, recording secretary; Linda Garber, corresponding secretary; and Carol Mellott, treasurer. Membership chair is Elaine Armstrong.
