Forbes Road Directors Hold Brief Meeting

Field trips, transportation matters OK’d

The Forbes Road School Board approved multiple field trips as requested and conducted other routine business at its regular meeting last Monday evening.

Field trips approved included: 11th- and 12thgrade students to Shippensburg University on October 13 for a tour and information session at no cost to the district as requested by Elyse Bennett; a similar trip to Allegheny College of Maryland on December 6 at no cost to the district; a trip in October or November to the Center for Families as requested by Sue Truax at no cost to the district; trips requested by Ryan Wade on October 23 or October 30 for Everett Women’s Club Halloween parade at a cost of $87.50, on November 1 for the Mercersburg Halloween parade at a cost of $105, and on October 16 for the Fulton Fall Folk Festival parade at a cost of $84; and a trip to the Reed Englert farm in the Narrows to participate in Youth Ag Expo on October 12 at no cost to the board.

A request from the Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies and Juniors to use the school facilities from 5-8 p.m. on Monday nights and every other Thursday night for their meetings was also approved.

Financial agenda items included the approval to move $1,060,000 from unreserved, undesignated fund balance to unreserved designated fund balance effective June 20, 2010, in accordance with Act 48 of 2003 was approved. The funds will be used for future payment of bond principal, interest payments, health insurance increases and PSER retirement rate increases.

The 2010-11 list of transportation contractors, drivers and their rates was approved and approval was given to add two buses to the Helman Bus Service inventory. Bus field trip rates were set at $1.75 per mile and $6 per hour for layover.

Personnel business included the approval of the 100 and 200 policy procedures. Also, the board named Robin Feight as the school district’s representative on the Parks and Recreation Commission’s board of directors. And the board hired Stacy Horne as an elementary/ middle level teacher at $32,250, effective October 15.

Other routine business included updates from the vo-tech and the elementary and junior-senior high schools

The next regular meeting is scheduled for November 1, 2010, and the next labor negotiations meeting will be held October 20, 2010.
