Charles C. Raker

Charles C. Raker, 83, Mercersburg, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010, in Chambersburg Hospital.

Born August 27, 1927, in McConnellsburg, he was a son of the late John Irwin and Ardella Mellott Raker.

He was a farmer and truck driver during his working career.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a member of American Legion Post 517 and VFW Post 6241, both of Mercersburg.

Surviving are two daughters: Betty Lou (Mrs. Robert) Secrest, Edenville, and Carol (Mrs. Glenn) Layton, Chambersburg; two sons: Curtis I. (husband of Sandy) Raker, Waterfall; and Steve A. (husband of Loretta) Raker, Mercersburg; 10 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Norman Jack Raker; a grandson, Jason Secrest; a great-grandson, Levi Secrest; and a brother, John A. Raker.

Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., October 9, at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg. Pastor Betty Secrest officiated. Private burial was held at the convenience of the family.
