A McConnellsburg woman suffered fatal injuries during a collision with a tractor-trailer last Thursday along Route 30 in Peters Township, Franklin County.

Fifty-six-year-old Lana S. Group of McConnellsburg was pronounced dead at 3:38 p.m. on September 30 by Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey Conner at the accident scene located on the 12000 block of Lincoln Way West.

Conner reported an autopsy was scheduled to be performed in Allentown the following day to determine cause of death for Group. The results of the autopsy were not yet available at presstime.

Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg were dispatched to the 3:10 p.m. accident and determined Daren M. Wink, 27, also of McConnellsburg, lost control of his eastbound 2008 Chevrolet truck on the rain-soaked roadway. Wink’s pickup truck spun 180 degrees and crossed the centerline, causing the passenger side to strike the driver’s side of a westbound tractor-trailer driven by Billy J. Mason, 38.

Group, who was a passenger in Wink’s truck, was not wearing a seat belt. She was ejected upon impact.

It is unknown if Wink was wearing a seat belt. He was, however, flown immediately following the collision to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for treatment of severe injuries.

Mercersburg, Montgomery, Peters and Warren Fire Co. rendered assistance at the crash scene. Traffic was rerouted from Route 30 for several hours between the areas of Main Street in Fort Loudon and Hawbaker Drive.

State police are continuing to investigate the accident to help determine why Wink lost control of his Chevrolet truck.

Group is survived by her mother, Susan Stains of Hustontown, as well as two daughters: Stephanie Snyder, Hustontown, and Elisha Seville, McConnellsburg, and a son, Steven Group, also of McConnellsburg. Her obituary can be found on page B3 of the “News.”
