Beta Sigma Phi News

The summer months were quite busy for the Sisters of Xi Eta Lambda, Mc- Connellsburg Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. In July, the sisters canvassed businesses in Fulton County for donations for the Fulton County Pageant. We also organized the committees to plan each aspect of the contest. Finding contestants and judges, soliciting businesses for prizes, planning the decorations for the tea and the stage, and making arrangements for entertainment during the tabulation of the scores as well as publicity with The Fulton County News for the pageant kept all the sisters busy in July.

The first meeting in August all the sisters turned in their donations for prizes for the four contestants. The emcee, judges and tabulators were selected for the pageant. The second meetingwas the pageant, and the sisters used the 2010-2011 theme, New Paths to Friendship, decorating the stage to resemble a garden path complete with a rail fence and flowers. The contestants had a brief rehearsal then met the judges at a tea at the American Legion. The Aughwick Band performed while the tabulators computed the scores. The 2010 Fair Queen was Taylor Morton. Gift bags containing select prizes from 57 Fulton County businesses were given to each young lady. Also in August, the sisters celebrated Beginning Day, with dining out and shopping in Hagerstown.

In September, details were wrapped up for the 2010 Fair Queen Pageant.

Social events, service projects, and ways and means options for the fall were discussed. A rushing meeting was set for October. The chapter received a three-star rating for the previous year.
