Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church Anniversary Service The Friends of Tonoloway will observe the 175th anniversary of Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church’s brick church building at their annual fall service set for October 3 at 2 p.m. The order of service will include an inspirational message by Rev. Roger Truax, pastor at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren and treasurer of the Friends organization; special music by the Sharon Mennonite Bible Institute Choir; and congregational hymns. Tonoloway Church memorabilia will be displayed and refreshments are planned following the service. All are invited. Organized in 1745, Tonoloway is Fulton County’s oldest church and the 10th oldest Baptist church in the U.S. The church is located in southern Fulton County on state Route 655 two miles north of Hancock, Md.

Gospel Music Jamaican-born Veeda Moore Smalls will share the good news through gospel music at Robertsdale Church of God October 2, 3 and 4 at 7:00 p.m. nightly and also at 10:30 a.m. on October 3. Veeda lives in Sumter, S.C. and for 17 years worked as a professional counselor with the State Department of Mental Health; she now has her private practice, New Journey Counseling Services. Veeda’s music has been song before thousands in churches, at conventions, concerts, on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, on radio and TV all across the United States. All are welcome.

Conference Broadcast For The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter day Saints The 180th semiannual general conference of the church will convene in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday and Sunday, October 2 and 3, 2010. Messages of inspiration and guidance will be delivered by the First Presidency, members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and other general authorities and general officers of the church. Session broadcasts may be viewed each day noon to 2:00 pm and 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Anyone who is interested in learning more about our faith is welcome to enjoy the conference broadcast at the Ward building. MHS Homecoming! McConnellsburg High School is having its second annual homecoming on Friday, October 8. It will start off with a junior high soccer game starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by a varsity boys soccer game at 7:15 p.m. The soccer teams will be playing Fannett-Metal, and MHS would like to invite everyone and anyone who graduated from MHS to come and cheer on the Spartans! Shortly after the soccer games, there will be a dance held on the soccer field and everyone is invited. It will be a wonderful time to socialize with old friends and maybe even dance! Historical Society Meeting For one long week in 1966, local rescuers searched for high school teenager Peggy Ann Bradnick, hidden in the mountains around Fulton County by her kidnapper, “Bicycle Pete.” All are invited to hear her personal story in the McConnellsburg High School auditorium at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 14. Sponsored by the Fulton County Historical Society, the meeting is open to the public free of charge, but an offering will be lifted to cover costs. Conservation Board Meetings Fulton County Conservation District Board of Directors monthly meetings for 2010 will be held on the following dates and times: October 14, 7:30 p.m.; November 11, 10:30 a.m.; and December 9, 10:30 a.m. The budget and finance, personnel and programs and services committees meet one-half hour prior to the regular board meeting. All district meetings are held in the Conservation District board room located at 216 North Second Street, McConnellsburg, unless otherwise noted.
Chamber Meetings Fulton County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism members are welcome to join in for lunch at the monthly membership meetings the third Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m., at the American Legion in McConnellsburg. A guest speaker will be featured at each meeting. Annual membership fee includes the cost of lunch for one person for the organization and a guest at an additional cost. No July and August meetings due to summer break.

Horse Owners’ Course “Things are Changing” is the title of an exciting horse owners’ two-day short course being offered by Penn State Cooperative Extension offices in Mifflin and Juniata counties and the Penn State Extension Equine Natural Working Group. Clear Ridge Methodist Church Anniversary Clear Ridge United Methodist Church is now making plans to celebrate its 150th year anniversary during the month of October 2010. Log Cabin Food Fulton County Historical Society will sell homemade beef barley soup and other food in the log cabin behind the Fulton House over the noon hour Friday and Saturday, October 15-16. Fulton County Historical Society House Tour Visit four private homes open to guests by ticket only from 1:00 pm. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, October 16 and 17. Homes will include the first brick house to be built in McConnellsburg by the town founder; a home built in 1946 with materials salvaged from an old limestone farmhouse demolished on Letterkenny property; a 10-room home built for Judge Peter Morton in 1900 with handmade bricks; and a remodeled farmhouse typical of those from the early 1900s in southern Fulton.
