Man Raped, Tried To Kill Robert Morris Student
PITTSBURGH (AP) – A man has been sentenced to 11 to 30 years in state prison for raping and trying to kill a western Pennsylvania university student at an offcampus town house last year.
Damiola Adewale, 24, pleaded guilty in June to attacking the 20-year-old Robert Morris University student in June 2009 in Moon Township in suburban Pittsburgh.
Adewale had dropped out of the university months before the attack. Authorities said he choked the woman with a computer cable and his hands until she lost consciousness. They also said he documented his plans for the attack in two notebooks.
Allegheny County Judge Jill Rangos on Thursday sentenced Adewale to consecutive sentences of six to 15 years for attempted homicide and five to 15 years for rape. Adewale apologized for his actions, saying he was “disgusted with myself and ashamed.’’
