Needmore, 78

Dorothy I. Bell Jordan, 78, Needmore, and formerly of Columbia, S.C., died Wednesay, September 15, 2010, at the home of her niece, Janis, and her husband, Stephen Weller, with whom she resided.

She was born February 27, 1932, in Greenwood Township and was the daughter of the late John and Ardna (McCracken) Bell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: John, Meldon, Earl and Alton Bell, two sisters: Donna Westover and Mary Campbell.

She is survived by a niece, Janis, and her husband, Stephen J. Weller of Needmore; a son, Douglas Jordan of South Carolina; one sister, Lois, and her husband, William Smochek Sr. of Dubois, Pa.; and a brotherin law, Lemoine Westover of LaJose, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a retired registered nurse after 30 years of service from Ft. Jackson Army Hospital, Columbia, S.C. She worked 26 years in the emergency room and received the highest honor a civilian could receive for her services. She retired in 1992.

She had many dear friends from North and South Carolina, and a dear friend, Rhoda Woodal of Needmore, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bell of Linden, Pa., and two very dear and special friends whom blessed Dorothy in her last days ,Pastor Dan and wife Jackie Porterfield of Harrisonville. She had the highest respect for them and loved them very much. They also home ministered her during her illness.

She loved to travel, took many cruises, loved to line dance, cross stitch, loved NASCAR, attending many races, and loved being with her dear friends and family.

While in Columbia, she was a member of the Millcreek United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and very active in her church. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was also a member of the Needmore Burial Association.

Her final wishes were that all memorial contributions be made to Stephen and Janis Weller, 8964 Thompson Road, Needmore, PA 17238 for all the tender loving care and time they spent taking care of her during her illness and all the love they gave her during the most difficult time. Dorothy’s last words were: “Now I know what it is like to be truly loved and be a part of a loving family.” She was so deeply loved by many and will be truly missed.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 2:00 at Pleasant Ridge Nazarene Church, 5806 Pleasant Ridge Road, Harrisonville, PA 17228 with Pastor Dan Porterfield officiating. There will also be another memorial service October 9, 2010, at 2:00 at the Mahaffey Church of the Brethren, Main Street, Mahaffey, Pa., with the Rev. Douglas Turner officiating. Everyone is welcome.
