Grandparents And Fallen Heroes Honored At Open Mic Night
Open-mic night at Warfordsburg Senior Citizens building honored grandparents and 911 victims on Saturday September 11, 2010. The tempo was kept low-keyed as various artists presented their memories in either words or songs. Before singing “Keep On The Sunny Side Of Life,” Catherine Beatty shared the inspiring account of a cancer-stricken family member. Her voice choked with emotion as she expressed her thankfulness for the excellent results. Grant Souders of McConnellsburg sang “The Old Country Church,” reminding grandparents of a life in the past. Catherine Beatty and Donald Unger performed an old Stanley Brothers song, “The Fields Have Turned Brown.” Floyd Palmer and Robert Duley also entertained throughout the evening. Flagdraped walls and patriotic decorations stirred emotions as Donald Unger sang “The Little Brown Church.” Souders won the family snack and fruit basket. Everyone enjoyed home-cooked refreshments throughout the evening. October 9 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. is the next scheduled mic-night.
