Another week has arrived and also the dry weather continues to be with us.

The community pig roast for Saturday at the Lions Park has been cancelled.

Center Church folks will hold a chicken barbecue on Saturday, September 25, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Proceeds go for the benefit of Center Cemetery Association.

Belated happy birthday wishes to Tammy Berkstresser on September 11 and also happy birthday to Lois McGowan on September 21. She would enjoy a card of best wishes to brighten her day. Her address is P.O. Box 455, Hustontown, PA 17229.

Hustontown Fire Co. will sponsor a “Tribute to Elvis” in concert by Jeff Krick at the Forbes Raod High School auditorium on Saturday, September 18. Food stand in the cafeteria opens at 5:00 p.m. Meet Jeff from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. One show only from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For fans of the late Elvis, this is a two-hour show for only $12 in advance and $15 at the door. The fire company will also sponsor an open stage on Satuday, Septmber 25, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The kitchen opens at 5:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come out and share their talent or just come out and enjoy the musical talent of others. It’s a good time to see old friends and meet new ones. Admission is free.

The fire company will also sponsor a food auction on Thursday, October 14, at 6:00 p.m. There will be new vendors with merchandise to be auctioned off. Come and check us out and support the volunteer firemen at the same time.

A shooting match will be held at the firehall Saturday, October 23, and Saturday, October 30, beginning at 1:00 p.m. More details will be prointed later. A good time for you guys and gals to come out and show off your marksmanship.

Household hint: Want fresh fruit pies all year? Prepare several pie fillings and freeze them in pie plates lined with aluminum foil when frozen. Remove the fillings and transfer them to plastic bags and return to freezer. Anytime you want a pie, just bake a crust, put a frozen filling in it and thaw.
