Cornelius, Richards Win Club Championships

Brett Cornelius Brett Cornelius Club championship play ended Sunday at Great Cove with two of the club’s golfers who have claimed the Men’s and Women’s Club Championships in the past doing so again to go home 2010’s top golfers.

Brett Cornelius shot rounds of 72, 79 and 77 (228) to win Great Cove’s Men’s Club Championship following the third and final round of competition on Sunday. Finishing behind Cornelius in the championship flight were Jason Long, 230; Bryan Campbell, 237; and Tony Foreman, 240.

First-flight winner of the Men’s Club Championship was Fred Peck, 251. Jamie Greathead took the second spot just one stroke behind Peck with a 252. He was followed in third and fourth by Tim Ranck, 261, and and Toby Souders, 262.

In the second flight, Emmert Banzhoff went home the winner with a 270. Wilmer “Butch” Boyle, 276; David Washabaugh, 277; and Carl Paylor, 277, finished second, third and fourth.

Kena Richards Kena Richards Great Cove’s Women’s Club Championship took place Saturday and Sunday and was won by Kena Richards, who posted a two-round total of 176 (92-84). Tailing Richards were Kay Wagner, 197; Tammy Ranck, 203; and Laura Blair, 206.

Sue Mayhugh, 202, and Betty Boyle, 217, were the first-flight winners.

The final match to determine the Men’s League Champion will be played this Thursday. The league’s first half winners, Bob Snyder and Dale Keebaugh, and second-half winners Jamie Greathead and Brian Mellott are competing for the title.

Week 17 of Ladies League play finished with Kim Sheeder at the top of the leader board at103 points. Following Sheeder are Deana Everhart, 95; Cindy Blair, 91; Lois O’Donnell, 85; Betty Boyle, 79; Kay Wagner, 76; Pam Arnold, 69; Laura Blair, 59; and Sue Mayhugh, 58.

Low net individual winners for the week were Pam Arnold, 27; Danyelle Howe and Deana Everhart, 28; and Betty Boyle, Sue Mayhugh and Lois O’Donnell, 33.

Next up on Great Cove’s tournament schedule are the Estep Memorial, Sept. 11; G.B.’s Par 3, Sept. 12; and the Boy Scout tournie, Sept. 16.
