By Kate Berkstresser

It was another nice, warm weekend but only a few sprinkles of rain on Sunday morning.

Glad to hear there was a good turnout for the Fairview and Knobsville United Methodist churches picnic on Sunday at Cowans Gap.

Happy 16th birthday to Emily Karczweski on August 25 and to Shawn Berkstresser at Slippery Rock on August 27.

Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor an open stage on Saturday, August 28, at 6:00 p.m. The kitchen opens at 5:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and share their talent or just come and enjoy the evening. Admission is free.

Best of luck to Nathan Karczewski as he enters college at California Univeristy of Pennsylvania on August 26 and to Dylan Gelvin, who leaves the same day for University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. They are both 2010 Forbes Road graduates.

Ryan Berkstresser of Slippery Rock is visiting folks in Fulton County this week.

Some of the schools are starting this week. It’s hard to believe the summer is gone and another school year has arrived. Good luck and make a good year of study.

Household hint: Use mothballs and crystals in sealed storage spaces to prevent dissipation of the mothball vapors. Mothballs should ideally hang above areas to be treated because the vapors are heavier than air and will drop. Crystals should never directly touch clothing nor should they be used with leather or furs.
