Women’s Bible Study Interdenominational Women's Bible Study at Cito Church starting Thursday, September 2, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and ending the Thursday before Thanksgiving. We will be studying John Bevere’s “The Bait of Satan” in which we will delve into the topics of bitterness, anger and resentment and, ultimately, forgiveness. All women are invited to attend. River Oaks Helpline A Christian crisis counseling/prayer phone line is now available. Tonoloway 175th Anniversary The Friends of Tonoloway will observe the 175th anniversary of Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church’s brick church building at their annual fall service set for October 3 at 2 p.m. The order of service will include an inspirational message by Rev. Roger Truax, pastor at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren and treasurer of the Friends organization; special music; and congregational hymns. Refreshments will be served in Tonoloway’s churchyard at the conclusion of the service. All are invited. Tonoloway is located in southern Fulton County on state Route 655 two miles north of Hancock, Md.

Homecoming Services Rehobeth Cemetery Association’s annual homecoming service will be held at Rehobeth United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 5, beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Frank Kocek will be in charge with Rev. Duane Jensen of Hancock United Methodist Church as guest speaker. Special music will be provided by Sharon Eby of Hagerstown and Bethany Blankley of Berkeley Springs. Memorial gifts by mail are appreciated. Lunch will be in the pavilion after the service. Meats, breads, desserts, drinks and utensils are furnished; however, covered dish would also be appreciated. Sideling Hill Church Homecoming Sideling Hill Christian Church will be celebrating its 65th annual homecoming on Sunday, September 5. Services include Sunday School at 9;30 a.m., worship service at 10:30 a.m., with guest speaker Mac Miller providing the message, followed by a basket lunch at noon. An afternoon service will be held at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. William Swope providing the message and special music by the Country Christians. There will also be a hymn sing at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome. The church is located at 10424 Sipes Mill Road, Needmore.

RECREATION

Flea Market The RW&BT Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a flea market at the company’s picnic grounds at Broad Top City on August 28 at 8:00 a.m. Crafts, baked goods, food vendors, etc. Spaces are $10 for all. Open Stage Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor an open stage Satuday, August 28, at 6:00 p.m. The kitchen opens at 5:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come to the smoke-free, air-conditioned facility and sahre their talent. Admission is free.

Line Dance Fulton County Line Dance Club will hold line dance sessions every Wednesday (except the first Wednesday of the month) beginning at 7:00 p.m. at VFW Post 655, Poplar Street, McConnellsburg. All are welcome. Come and learn some new steps. A $2 donation is appreciated.

Block Party Rehoboth New Life will be hosting a community block party Saturday, September 4, starting at noon until 4 p.m. at Needmore Firehall. This is a totally free event to the public. The block party will feature a free yard sale, free food and drinks, free games, free moonbounce and giant rockwall/slide, free petting zoo, free cake walk and free live music featuring local worship bands. There will also be many giveaways, including girls and boys bikes, scooters, many gift certificates and donations from local businesses. RNL will also be receiving donations for the Needmore Fire Dept. for the purchase of a thermal-imaging camera. Bring lawn chairs. Bus Trip A Bus trip to Boyds Bear Country in Gettysburg to attend the 2010 BasketFest with Longaberger will be August 28. This is the sixth year for the BasketFest and basket weavers will be on site. Outdoor Movie Night Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church will be sponsoring an outdoor movie night on Saturday, September 4, at 7:00 p.m. The movie “Ace of Hearts” will be shown. Cookout and popcorn at 7:00 p.m. and movie at 8:00 p.m. This event is free to the community, so bring family, friends and comfy chair and enjoy the evening.

Meet Your Neighbor A Meet Your Neighbor event will be held Saturday, August 28, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., at the pavilion behind Trinity United Church of Christ. Come meet neighbors, enjoy some good food, fun and fellowship. Chicken barbecue, hot dogs, baked goods and drinks will be sold. There will be water games and face painting during the day. Sight & Sound Trip McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church is sponsoring a bus trip to the Sight & Sound Theatre to see “Joseph” on Saturday, September 11. The bus will leave the Presbyterian Church at 11:30 a.m. and be returning between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Cost is $100 for adults, $75 for teens (13-18 years), $50 for children (3-12 years). Tribute To Elvis Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor a tribute to Elvis in concert by Jeff Krick at Forbes Road High School Auditorium on September 18. Hunter-Trapper Education Course A Hunter-Trapper education course will be held September 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and September 11, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Fulton County Pistol and Rifle Club. Preregistration is required at PGC Web site at www.pgc.state.pa.us. Click on education/ hunter education class schedule. Class limit is 65 students. Bring bag lunch for Saturday. Trap Shoots Trap shoot practice will be held every Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Pistol and Rifle Club. The third Sunday of each month will be a 100-target shoot starting at noon.

Fulton House Museum Display The Fulton County Historical Society has a display of old kitchen utensils and local needlework at the Fulton House on temporary loan. Summer hours are every Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with additional hours by request. The exhibit is free and includes the society’s permanent museum collection plus books, shirts and other items available for purchase.

MEETINGS

Farm Women Meeting Fulton County Society of Farm Women will meet Thursday, September 2, at 7:00 p.m., at the home of Pam Glenn. This will be a planning meeting for a possible upcoming tea, the family Christmas banquet and playing bingo.

COPE Meeting COPE’s Parent Support Group will meet at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, August 26, at the Head Start building. The topic will be “Family Networking.” More information or directions may be obtained by calling Shay at 717-485-4417 or Kenny at 717-485-5038.

Chamber Meetings Fulton County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism members are welcome to join in for lunch at the monthly membership meetings the third Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m., at the American Legion in Mc- Connellsburg. A guest speaker will be featured at each meeting. Annual membership fee includes the cost of lunch for one person for the organization and a guest at an additional cost. No July and August meetings due to summer break.

Legion Meeting American Legion Post 561 active members regular meeting is the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. Auxiliary members meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Members of both organizations are urged to attend.

PARSE Meeting Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees (PARSE) has a 9:00 a.m. breakfast meeting on the second Wednesday of every month at McConnellsburg FOVA (VFW). All retired state employees and spouses are invited to attend. For additional information, call 485-4763.

Democratic Meetings The Fulton County Democratic Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Democratic Headquarters building at 123 South Second Street in McConnellsburg. Scout Meeting Boy Scouts of America Troop 43 meets every Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in McConnellsburg. It is open to all boys 11-18 years of age. Conservation Board Meetings Fulton County Conservation District Board of Directors monthly meetings for 2010 will be held on the following dates and times: September 9, 7:30 p.m.; October 14, 7:30 p.m.; November 11, 10:30 a.m.; and December 9, 10:30 a.m. The budget and finance, personnel and programs and services committees meet one-half hour prior to the regular board meeting. All district meetings are held in the Conservation District board room located at 216 North Second Street, McConnellsburg, unless otherwise noted.

REUNIONS

SF Class Reunion Southern Fulton High School Class of 1960 will hold their reunion at the Presbyterian Church Faith Center in Warfordsburg, August 28. FOOD & DINING

Food/Yard Sale A food and yard sale will be held at Clear Ridge Community Building September 2 and 3 at 8:00 a.m. Served will be soup, sandwiches and pies.

Festival A festival will be held at Buck Valley Park August 28. Special music by the bluegrass gospel band “Guilford Station.” Food and games from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Center Festival Center United Methodist Church will be having its final festival Saturday, August 28, at 4:00 p.m. The church is located one-half mile off Rt. 655 on Dublin Mills Road. Turkey or ham dinners will be served with choice of fixings. Other goodies will be available, such as sandwiches, soup, cake, pie and homemade ice cream. All are welcome.

Hustontown/FR Alumni Banquet Hustontown/Forbes Road Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, October 2, at Hustontown Firehall. The doors will open at 4:00 p.m. to come early and visit with friends before the meal is served at 6:00 p.m. Cost is $9 per person. Chicken BBQ/Bake Sale A chicken barbecue and bake will be held Saturday, September 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Rock Hill Mennonite Church. The church is located three miles south of McConnellsburg on Route 522. Turn right onto Back Run Road and left onto Rock Hill Road. Additional information may be obtained by calling 485-9498.

Chicken BBQ A chicken barbecue will be held Saturday, September 18, at Burnt Cabins Grist Mill at 4:00 p.m. Cost is $10 per person and under 10 is free. A cancer benefit auction will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available on site or call 717-987-3244. No alcoholic beverages. Homemade ice cream will also be sold.

Pig Roast A pig roast will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church August 28. Everyone is welcome. Bring family and a covered dish. The roast pig, drinks and other amenities will be provided. Seating is available, however, feel free to bring lawn chairs. There is no charge, but a freewill offering will be taken for the musicians. Music by The Silver Creek Band will be at 4:00 p.m., roast pig supper at 5:00 p.m. and more music at 6:00 p.m. The church is located at 226 Ebenezer Church Road, Needmore. Ice Cream Festival Fairview United Methodist Church will hold an ice cream festival September 11. The church is located four miles north of Hustontown on North Hess Road. Homemade ice cream, soups, sandwiches, french fries and desserts will be for sale. The festival will begin at 4:00 p.m. All are welcome.

Free Meal A free meal will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, North Third Street, McConnellsburg, the second Tuesday of each month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join in for fellowship and good food.

Invasive Plant Workshop The Invasive Plant Management Field Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, August 28, at 844 Oakleaf Road, McConnellsburg. The program is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $15 per person and includes refreshments and handout materials. Preregistration for this workshop is required prior to Friday, August 20, 2010. Clear Ridge Methodist Church Anniversary Clear Ridge United Methodist Church is now making plans to celebrate its 150th year anniversary during the month of October 2010. Anyone who may have information, pictures or stories regarding local history of the church, surrounding community, stores or schools, please call 717-987-3266. It is hoped to develop a narrative history of the church and surrounding community of significant events over the past 150 years. The members are interested in families who have contributed to the community.

Forbes Road Open House Forbes Road School District is holding an open house for students and parents on Thursday, September 23, between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Students enrolled in K-4 through 12th grade are encouraged to attend.

Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church Photos Wanted Friends of Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church is seeking old photographs of Tonoloway Primitive Baptist Church and/or activities that took place in the churchyard to copy for display at the Friends’ Oct. 2, 2010, worship service at the church. The 2 p.m. service will celebrate the brick church building’s 175th anniversary. All photos will be returned and should be submitted to the Friends by Sept. 1, 2010. Contact Lindsay R. SF Pre-Kindergarten Registration Southern Fulton School district has a few openings in the pre-kindergarten program for the 2010-11 school year. Hospice Volunteers Needed Lutheran Home Care & Hospice Inc. is offering free hospice volunteer training sessions for individuals who would like to visit and provide support to local clients and families coping with terminal illness. BINGO

McCbg. Bingo McConnellsburg Fire Co. will hold bingo every Monday and Friday of each week. Bingo starts at 7:00 p.m. and doors open at 5:30 p.m. A basket bingo will be held the first Sunday of each month. Bingo starts at 1:00 p.m. and doors open at 11:00 a.m. Forty games and meal plus snacks for $25.

Bingo Needmore Volunteer Fire Co. holds bingo Wednesday evenings beginning at 6:45 p.m. at the firehall. The auxiliary holds bingo the first Saturday of every month starting at 6:45 p.m. at the firehall.

HEALTH

Nutrition Class Fulton County nutrition awareness classes are held at Warfordsburg Senior Center on the third Monday of every month. When the third Monday is a holiday, it is held the fourth Monday from 10:00 a.m. to noon. To register or sign up for lunch call 717-294-6020.

McConnellsburg AA Meetings The McConnellsburg Chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous will meet on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. every week at Lions Club Community building.

Free Blood Pressure Screenings Free blood pressure screenings will be given at the following locations: Home Care Office, 213 South Second Street, McConnellsburg, the first Tuesday of every month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; Mc- Connellsburg Senior Center the first Thursday of every month from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Hann’s Apartments the second Monday of every month from 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Warfordsburg Senior Center the third Wednesday of every month from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and Hustontown Senior Center the third Thursday of every month from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
