Grace E. Truax
She was born May 15, 1920, in Hopewell, a daughter of the late John M. Van Horn, and Lillie Mae (Ritchey) Van Horn.
On March 19, 1943, she married Chalmer R. Eller, who passed away in September of 1956. Then on June 14, 1964, she married Millard McCoy Truax, who passed away in January of 1990.
She is survived by two daughters: Ronda J. Barnett, and husband Howard, of Wells Tannery; Joan E. Carpenter, and husband John, of Crystal Spring; a sister, Ruth Hale, of Wells Tannery; a brother, John Van Horn, and wife Mary, of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and 14 stepgreat grandchildren.
Earlier in her lifetime, she was a member of Pine Grove Methodist Church in Wells Tannery, and then attended church at Whips Cove United Church of Christ.
In 1986, she joined the Faith Assembly of God Church in Warfordsburg, and was active in many church activities throughout her lifetime, also serving with the ladies aid.
She was a graduate of Hustontown High School, Class of 1938, and after graduation, traveled to Harrisburg to work with her Aunt Grace, selling Ecco Powder door to door. She then worked as a cook at Hamil’s Restaurant in Mc- Connellsburg, as a seamstress at Lion manufacturing in Everett, and again was a cook at Snyder’s Gateway and the Wildwood Inn, and then retired after working as a housekeeper at the Panorama Motel in Breezewood.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, canning, camping with her family, swimming and needlecrafts. She will be greatly missed for her caring way, always wand to visit with friends and family.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel at Dalla Valle Funeral Service, Everett with Rev. Delmas Bard officiating. Burial was held at Wells Valley Methodist Cemetery.
