Great Cove Golf News

The Senior Championship held Sunday at Great Cove was won by Wilmer “Butch” Boyle, who carded a gross 81 for a net 64 to win the overall title. He was also the winner in the age 61-70 group.

In the age 55-60 group, Kenneth Mayhugh was the winner with a net 69, while Carl Paylor won the 71 and over age group also netting a 69.

American Legion Post 561 Tournament held Saturday was won by the team of Bill Yocum, Denny Pollock, Ross Henry and Dave Bonsell with a 58. Second place, with a 59, went to Matt Sigel, Dave House, Ryan Earley and Brett Cornelius.

Third-place winners were Tim McGarvey, Mike Banzhoff, Gary Bard and Eric Fisher with a 60.

Fourth place, also with a 60, went to Cookie Brown, Bob Noll, Richie Smith and John Flanery.

Fifth place, with a 61, went to Buzz Carmck, Jeff Carmack, Rick Mellott and Jenny Mellott.

Closest-to-the-pins were Jason Gordon on No. 4; Bobby Noll on No. 6; Brett Cornelius on No. 12 and Glenda Shafer on No. 16.

A hole-in-one was scored on July 1 by Tom King on the 159-yard par-3 No. 4 hole. King used a 7 iron to hole out from the tee, playing in a foursome with Garry Miller Sr., Eric Fisher and son Andrew.

The next tournament is the Sadie Hawkins scheduled for Sunday, July 25, with men’s match play to begin on Saturday, July 31.
