New Enterprise Rural Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting Held
The 72nd annual meeting of the New Enterprise Rural Electric Cooperative was held at Northern Bedford High School on June 15, 2010. New Enterprise Rural Electric has 3,500 accounts in portions of Bedford, Fulton and Huntingdon counties, with three substations and nearly 400 miles of line.
There are eight directors that equally represent the service territory of the system. The general manager/ CEO of the cooperative for the past 25 years, Rick L. Eichelberger, gave a report on the condition of the cooperative. The board president, Leroy D. Walls of Saxton, reported on some of the activities during the past year.
Entertainment during a portion of the evening was provided by Cross-Over.
Prior to the business meeting, 614 family-style turkey dinners were served by the Northern Bedford High School band members and parents. A total of 292 members of the cooperative registered at the meeting.
John R. Dively from New Enterprise, Robert L. Guyer from Woodbury and David A. Bequeath from Everett were reelected for three-year terms by the members of the cooperative.
General manager/CEO Rick L. Eichelberger discussed the significance of annual meetings and pointed out how accessible the employees and directors who are the operators, managers and regulators of the members electric utility are.
Other topics discussed included recent changes with business partners/ vendors, the rate change being stable for another two years, the Smart Grid activity that has seen 60 percent of the members now having Smart meters installed.
The membership was reminded of the daily efforts in making maintenance and technology improvements the goal of providing safe, reliable and affordable electricity are met.
The following were recognized for years of service: director Leroy D. Walls of Saxton for 10 years service and employees Rick L. Eichelberger with 25 years and Brandon Reese with two years.
Board president Walls discussed the cooperative model being followed and how the board determines what to do with any margins at the end of each year. Also discussed was the importance and commitment of having line crews and an office in the community and no possibility of them ever leaving the area.
A reorganization board meeting was held June 17, 2010, with the following officers being appointed: president - Leroy D. Walls of Saxton; vice president - Harry K. Johnson of Wells Tannery; secretary - John R. Dively of New Enterprise; assistant secretary - Robert L. Guyer of Woodbury; and treasurer - Dean L. Brant of Harrisonville.
Director Leroy D. Walls was selected to represent the cooperative as a director on the board of the Pennsylvania Rural Electric Association.
