Fire Engulfs 4 Western Pa. Homes; Residents Escape
NEVILLE ISLAND, Pa.
AP) – Fire officials in western Pennsylvania say a multi alarm blaze engulfed four homes on Neville Island just outside Pittsburgh.
Crews from at least 10 communities were called to battle the blaze, which was reported at 8:39 p.m. Saturday.
The flames quickly spread to three other homes and also engulfed a pickup truck and a garage, but all of the residents were able to get out safely. One firefighter had a minor injury.
Billowing smoke from the fire could be seen for miles.
The Allegheny County fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause, but neighbors said they believe the source may have been an exploding propane tank on a gas grill.
The American Red Cross provided food and clothing for 11 adults and several children.
