40 Years Ago From The Files Of July 16, 1970

’70 Robert Cutchall, highway superintendent in Fulton County, was honored by highway officials and fellow workers at a banquet held at

the American Legion home on Monday night to mark his leaving the highway department to return to private construction business.

Two Fulton County girls, Deborah Horton of Mc- Connellsburg and Linda Seburn of Big Cove Tannery, will be among the 4-H Club members competing in the regional contests at Mifflintown on July 17. Both girls were winners in the recent county 4-H Demonstration Day contest.

Several Fulton County Future Farmers of America were in the spotlight at the recent 1970 mid-year convention at the Pennsylvania State University. David Corman of the Forbes Road chapter won fourth in the floriculture contest. Steve Group earned a fourth-place bronze certificate in land judging, and David Drenning won a fourth-place silver award in the forestry contest. Other Forbes Road members taking part in the activities were Steve Grissinger, Jay Knepper and Terry Mellott. McConnellsburg was represented by Roy Hess, who won honorable mention in the agricultural mechanics skills; Edwin Swope, honorable mention in the dairy products contest; Greg Mellott, who played in the FFA band; and Gary Decker, who represented the Fulton County FFA in the delegate section. Tom Burkett of the Warfordsburg chapter earned honorable mention for his ef- forts in the interview contest. Other students from Southern Fulton were Sam Simpson and Ronald Powell, Donald Mellott, Ed Whiteside and David Smith.

News of men in service: Pvt. Ray E. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Miller of Needmore, is spending a 19-day leave with his wife, the former Judy K. Souders of Needmore. He is a carpenter for the Army and will be stationed in Germany with his wife and child.

The McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church was the scene of an impressive wedding ceremony on June 13 at 2:00 p.m. which united in marriage Miss Teresa Ann Peck and Robert H. Murray. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Peck of McConnellsburg and Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Murray of Harrisburg.

Births at the Medical Center: a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. John Yetter of St. Thomas on July 4; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Strait of Six Mile Run on July 5; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carbaugh Jr. of McConnellsburg on July 5; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Morton of Needmore on July 6; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Gary Somers Sr., Warfordsburg, on July 7; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mellott of Needmore on July 8; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. James N. Mellott of Big Cove Tannery on July 9; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Daniels of Harrisonville on July 9; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Knepper of Burnt Cabins on July 10.

Marriage licenses: Ronald Eugene Goshorn of Blairs Mills and Judy Dawn Carbaugh of Burnt Cabins; Gary Lee Fischer and Barbara Ann Clingerman, both of Warfordsburg; Gregory Alan Ford of Wells Tannery and Frances Louise Weist of Breezewood.
