’80 At the height of a severe electrical hailstorm on Sunday at 2:00 a.m., McConnellsburg firemen were called to a barn, owned by Donald

Richards on the property leased by Leonard Hann at Websters Mills, which had been struck by lightning. The barn was ablaze by the time firemen got there and the Needmore and Hustontown Area fire companies were called to assist in controlling the fire, which burned for approximately 2-1/2 hours.

State police are investigating an incident of criminal mischief, which occurred in the early hours on Saturday, when a cross was burned at the black settlement on the Ridge, west of McConnellsburg on Route 30.

People flocked from all over the county and farther last Thursday night to watch and cheer the participants in the annual Hustontown Firemen’s Parade. The trees which line the grass-covered village street provided shady and comfortable seating for the many spectators during the hour-or-so-long parade.

Fulton County’s fourth road fatality this year was recorded last Thursday afternoon, west of Harrisonville, when a 13-year-old Fort Loudon boy was killed in a tragic accident while riding with his father. Robert Eugene Carlin, 13, of Path Valley Road, was pronounced dead of chest injuries at the scene. His father, Jack Carlin, 47, was taken to the Medical Center and admitted with multiple lacerations.

Karla Barnett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Barnett of Hustontown, was crowned HAFCO Fire Queen by last year’s queen, Tish Henry, at the Hustontown Firemen’s Carnival last Tuesday night.

Births at the Medical Center: a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Northcraft of Fort Loudon on June 22; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Jacobs of Mercersburg on June 22; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Steven Thomas of Wells Tannery on June 22; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Chester Atherton of Mercersburg on June 23; a son to Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Mellott of Harrisonville on June 24; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Alan W. Lessley Jr., Shirleysburg, on June 24.

The Wells Valley United Methodist Church was the setting for the wedding of Yvette Elaine Berkstresser and Tracy Alan Miller in a candlelight ceremony on June 14. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Berkstresser of Wells Tannery, and the groom is the son of Clair Miller of McConnellsburg and K. Sue Miller of Hustontown.

Patricia M. Spade and John Keefer Jr. were united in marriage on April 19. The bride is the daughter of Veryl and Adrian Spade of Needmore, and the groom is the son of John and Norma Keefer of Hancock.

Wedding vows were exchanged by Carol Ann Zeger and Franklin B. DeShong on June 8. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Zeger, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Morgan, Pine Grove.
