Janiver R. Covert Shade Gap, 77
Janiver Raymond “Jimmy” Covert, 77, Shade Gap, died Friday afternoon, June 18, 2010, at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.
Born December 8, 1932, in Burnt Cabins, he was a son of the late Francis and Elsie (Gutshall) Covert. He was united in marriage to the former Helen Lake on April 23, 1955, at Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap, by Rev. Belvy White. She survives at Woodland Retirement Community, Orbisonia.
He is survived by a son and daughter, Kenneth Covert and wife Brenda, Cassville, and Robin Peterson and husband Alan, Shade Gap; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers and a sister: Lloyd Covert, Mc- Connellsburg; Melvin Covert, Shade Gap; and Lena Snyder, Shade Gap.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Doyle; an infant grandson and two brothers: Norman and Ralph Covert.
He was a member of Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap, where he served on the church board for 20 years, taught Sunday School for 40 years, drove the church bus and was treasurer for several years.
He was a veteran of the Korean War from 1953 to 1955, having served in the United States Army.
He attended Pleasant Hill grade school and then graduated from Orbisonia High School with the Class of 1952.
He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, after 37 1/2 years of service. He later worked at Community State Bank, Orbisonia, for eight years.
He enjoyed playing music and hunting and especially loved his family and grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 22, at Fair Ridge Assembly of God Church, Shade Gap. Pastor Karey Schaffer officiated. Interment was made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap.
