Strawberry Festival Contest Winners

The Fulton County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism announced last week the winners of several new contests held during its annual Strawberry Festival June 11 and 12.

McConnellsburg resident Erica Doyle’s strawberry cheesecake muffins were named the winner of the chamber’s recipe contest. Recipe entries were judged by Noreen Mann and Faye Butts, both of McConnellsburg.

Faye Butts was named the 2010 Ultimate Strawberry Stemmer after beating out seven other contestants.

Winners in the strawberry coloing contest that included kindergarten and first-grade students at all three public schools and the Fulton County Community Christian School were, by school: FCCCS, first grade – Amorelle Koontz, kindergarten – Hannah Schlaefli; McConnellsburg, first grade – Carter Garlock, kindergarten – Olivia Alexander; Forbes Road, first grade – Sarah Walker, kindergarten – Alayah Gelvin; and Southern Fulton, first grade – Payton Sprout, kindergarten – Ciara Stroh, who was also named the contest’s grand champion.

Winners may pick up their prizes at the chamber office, telephone 717-485- 4064.

The chamber also announced the winners of the popular, annual Strawberry Festival baby and toddler contest that was sponsored this year by Community State Bank of Orbisonia. Rylee Lockard, McConnellsburg, 7-month-old daughter of Mallory Welsh and Josh Lockard, was voted top baby and, in the toddler category, 3 1/2-year-old Reuben Knepper, McConnellsburg, son of Craig and Jen Knepper, won top honors.

Rylee and Reuben’s prize packages included a sitting at Lisa’s Photo Creations, McDonald’s gift certificates, a $25 U.S. Savings Bond, gifts from the Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, and a trophy.
