Ben K-5K The fifth annual Ben K-5K run/walk will be held Saturday, July 31, at 8 a.m. at Center United Methodist Church. Applications are available at Fulton County News, Keller’s Country Store, Edgewood Pro Hardware and Newman’s Market. Deadline to preregister is July 1. T-shirts available for sale race day. Christmas In July Ride A.B.A.T.E. of PA, Keystone Chapter 56 is holding its annual Christmas in July ride on July 25, 2010. This year all proceeds will be going to the Royal Family Kids Camp (RFKC). In the summer of 2008 Royal Family Kids camp opened in the area to benefit abused and neglected children. Donations would be apprecated. Please make a donation check payable to Keystone Chaper of A.B.A.T.E. of PA. In the notation please put Christmas in July 2010. If you have any questions please call me at 717- 372-4561.

FR Soccer Registration Forbes Road Area AYSO needs girls and boys between the ages of 5 and15 who are interested in playing or learning to play soccer. All team members will play at least half of every game. The $35 registration fee includes uniform. There will be four sign-up locations and dates: Thursday, July 8, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Lions Club pavilion behind Forbes Road School; Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at M&T’s Resale Shoppe beside the Fort Littleton turnpike exit; Thursday, July 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Wells Tannery Park; and Saturday, July 17, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Twist-N-Shake on Waterfall Road. Golf Tournament Post 561 will hold a golf tournament July 17, with a shotgun start at 1:00 p.m. The four-man scramble will be held at Great Cove Golf Course. Proceeds benefit county school schiolarship fund. More information may be obtained by calling the golf course or the Legion.

Shade Gap Picnic The 127th annual Shade Gap Picnic will be held at Harpers Memorial Park, August 1-7. The annual parade will be held Monday, August 2, at 7:00 p.m. More information may be obtained by calling 814-259-3252 or www.shadegapfire.com.

Bus Trip PA-R-Pac is sponsoring a bus trip to Atlantic City July 24. Leave the Legion at 6:30 a.m. and return at 11:00 p.m. Price is $60. In return you will receive a $22 refund and a buffet. Farm Women Picnic Fulton County Society of Farm Women will have a picnic at James Buchanan’s Birthplace on July 4, at 1:00 p.m., for members and their families. Hamburgers, hot dogs and rolls will be provided; members bring own place settings and either side dishes, salads or desserts.

Bluegrass/Gospel Music Festival Bedford Chapel Church on Rt. 643, 4570 Flickerville Road, Warfordsburg, will host its annual festival on July 17, from 4:30 p.m. until 10.00 p.m. Food stand and cake walks. Entertainment provided by Richard and Mary Fox with Higher Ground, Guildford Station and By Faith Ministries Gospel Singers. Bring lawn chairs.

Fulton House Museum Display The Fulton County Historical Society has a display of old kitchen utensils and local needlework at the Fulton House on temporary loan. Summer hours are every Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with additional hours by request. The exhibit is free and includes the society’s permanent museum collection plus books, shirts and other items available for purchase.

Summer Reading Program A summer reading program event will be held Tuesday, July 6, at 6:00 p.m. in the community room of the Fulton County Library. After a Cove Creek restoration tour with Scott Alexander, there will be free pizza at the library courtesy of Jason Ritchey and Lincoln Way Pizza.

Car Show McConnellsburg Alumni and Friends Association, formerly the Fulton-Franklin Car Club, will hold a benefit car show Saturday, July 10, at McConnellsburg High School. Registration will be 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Trophies awarded to top 50 vehicles, plus three special awards. Breakfast and lunch will be served, 50-50 drawing, Chinese auction plus a vendor craft show. Raindate is July 11, 2010. All cars, trucks, motorcycles are welcome. Great Cove Baseball School Great Cove Baseball School is for players ages 8-12 years of age to learn baseball fundamentals. The school is set for July 5, 6, 7 and 8 at the Fulton County Little League field located in Lions Community Park, McConnellsburg. The sessions begin at 8:30 a.m. and wrap up at 3:00 p.m. Lunch is provided. Free T-shirts and prizes awarded. The instructors are Bob Thomas, Chambersburg High School baseball coach; Rod Bennett, Frederick Community College baseball coach and Loy Garber, McConnellsburg High School baseball coach (retired).
