Andrea N. Metz has been selected as the winner of special scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corp. The scholarship is sponsored by International Specialty Products Inc. Metz was of two people in the country selected for this scholarship. She graduated from Mercersburg Academy and will be attending Barnard College-Columbia University in New York City in the fall.
She scored a perfect 800 on the verbal section of the SATs. While at Mercersburg Academy, she completed seven advanced placement (AP) courses for college credit. She was selected for several trips abroad traveling to the Czech Republic, South Africa and Swaziland. She is fluent in French and was Montgomery Award winner in which she completed field study in France her senior year. She was also selected as a School Prefect at Mercersburg Academy.
Andrea played squash, lacrosse and field hockey at Mercersburg. She earned varsity letter all four years of field hockey and was named to the Academic All MAPL (Mid-Atlantic Preg League).
She was on the honor roll very semester since ninth grade and was named cum laude at graduation, which is one of the most significant honors bestowed by the academy, paralleling that of Phi Beta Kappa in colleges and universities. She received a Presidential Education Award signed by President Obama at graduation.
Andrea is the daughter of Wade and Lisa Kemp, Shippensburg, and William H. Metz of McConnellsburg. She is the granddaughter of Anne Metz and Mack M. Clevenger of McConnellsburg and the late Shirley Clevenger, Dorothy Clevenger and Harold Metz of Mc- Connellsburg.
