Millersville Takes Over Pa. Academy Of Music Site
LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) – Millersville University is moving some of its operations to the former home of the Pennsylvania Academy of Music in downtown Lancaster.
Millersville expects to use the building as replacement space for Lyte Auditorium, which will be renovated and expanded over two years.
The university also plans to move its visual and performing arts department and some offices into the 63,000- square-foot building.
The financially troubled music academy filed for bankruptcy reorganization last month. The recession slashed donations and funding just months after it opened in 2006.
The building was designed by the New York City architectural firm of Alan Ritchie and the late Philip Johnson, renowned for landmarks such as Lincoln Center.
