By Chanin Rotz-Mountz STAFF WRITER

State police, McConnellsburg, reported last week that a Needmore man suffered fatal injuries when his vehicle was struck by an oncoming car along Thompson Road.

William Myrle Trail of 5620 Thompson Road was pronounced dead at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, following the two-vehicle crash just south of the intersection of Frank Road. Trail was not wearing a seat belt when the acci- dent occurred, and his 1990 Nissan pickup truck was not equipped with airbags.

Fulton County Deputy Coroner Darrin Smith said the cause of Trail’s death has not yet been determined as the case remains open and under investigation.

Investigating officer Trooper James Lupey stated Trail, 68, was killed as he was travelling southbound on Thompson Road. An oncoming 2000 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Melvin Joseph Bowman Jr., 26, also of Needmore, crossed the Thompson Township roadway at 2:45 p.m. and struck Trail’s truck.

The impact of the collision, Lupey added, caused Trail’s Nissan to roll onto its roof before it was pushed backwards into a guiderail.

Bowman was not wearing a seatbelt. He was transported to Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Md. where he was treated for moderate injuries.

Damage to both vehicles was listed as severe.

State police were aided on the scene by the Needmore Volunteer Fire Co. and the Hancock Rescue Squad.

Investigation into the fatal accident is continuing, state police concluded.
